Preparation- Tosta Coffee Co

There are several ways of preparing iced coffee. Ordinary hot-brewed coffee can be served cold, although this may result in a bitter-tasting product. Cold brewing relies on time, rather than heat, to transfer the coffee flavor to the water. In order to achieve this, ground coffee is soaked in water for hours and then filtered. This may be done in any container, such as a mason jar or French press, although commercialized cold brewing systems also exist.

In more recent times it has become common for coffee shops to offer ‘iced’ versions of their most popular coffee drinks. The iced latte and iced mocha are the two most common examples of this. A quick way of preparing such drinks is to make a small quantity of strong, hot espresso, dissolving the required sweetener/flavorings in the hot liquid and then pouring this directly into a cup of ice cold milk. This method is common in busier coffee shops.

Serving

Depending on the brewing method, iced coffee can be served already chilled, or poured hot, double strength, over an equal amount of ice. Because sugar does not dissolve readily into cold liquids, it must be added either directly to the hot base, or to the finished product in the form of simple syrup, which can be made by mixing quantities of water and sugar, then simmering over low heat until the desired viscosity is attained. Unlike sugar, most synthetic substitutes such as aspartame (Equal, Nutrasweet) or sucralose (Splenda) will dissolve readily into cold coffee. Now you’re ready for the summer with Tosta Coffee Co!

Here at Tosta Coffee Co we don’t just roast gourmet coffee and ship it out to happy customers . We also start our day with it! We want to discuss how to make the perfect French Press Coffee. Before we go any further we can also ship you examples of what the grind should look like. We also must add that grinding your coffee right before you use it is the very best for flavor and effect. OK, Let’s get started on this 19th century discovery:)

Heat water in a tea kettle just before the boiling point. I find water heated in a tea kettle seems to hold the heat better than water heated in the microwave.

Using fresh whole beans, grind the beans to a medium grind. The grind for a coffee press should be coarser than for drip coffee. If the coffee is ground too fine, then grounds will seep into your coffee and you’ll have coffee silt in the bottom of your cup.

Add coffee to the bottom of the empty press. I use 3 coffee scoops (around 2 Tablespoons for each scoop) for a full 12 ounce press, but you can adjust this according to taste.

Fill container with hot water. Put lid on to keep in the heat but don’t press yet.

Allow to brew for exactly 4 minutes. If left too long, the coffee can become bitter.

Remove the lid and stir the pot right before plunging.

Press the plunger all the way to the bottom.

Voila! Pour coffee and enjoy.

It’s best to not leave coffee in the pot for more than 20 minutes so the coffee doesn’t become bitter.

Rinse out your pot for next time.

The formation of culture around coffee and coffeehouses dates back to 14th century Turkey. Coffeehouses in Western Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean were traditionally social hubs, as well as artistic and intellectual centers. Elements of today’s coffeehouses (slower paced gourmet service, tastefully decorated environments, or social outlets such as open mic nights) have their origins in early coffeehouses, and continue to form part of the concept of coffee culture. In many urban centers around the world, it is not unusual to see several espresso shops and stands within walking distance of each other or on opposite corners of the same intersection, typically with customers overflowing into parking lots.

We’ve taken it one step further and ship the coffee right to you! Because we roast on-site daily, our coffee just doesn’t get any fresher. We combine choice beans into a few select blends. Using green coffee beans, we believe in air roasting and aging each bean to its peak flavor for an even roast naturally developing the oils without damage. Each blend is measured carefully so you get the same great taste order after order. Enjoy being a part of the Coffee Culture, conveniently in your own home or business.

We know that finding a specialty or gourmet shop can be difficult . You want the company that sells you your coffee to be knowledgeable and to spend some time educating you. We are just that! . Our coffee is roasted and sent out the same day. Most important you want the coffee to taste amazing. The roasting process influences the flavor of the beverage by changing the coffee bean both physically and chemically. The bean decreases in weight as moisture is lost and increases in volume, causing it to become less dense. The density of the bean also influences the strength of the coffee and requirements for packaging. We know our coffee very well.Let us know what type of coffee you enjoy: mild or full-bodied; floral-tasting, nutty or winy; and so on. You can read about these flavors on our product selection page here Product Info . Make sure to store coffee beans and ground coffee in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. It is important not to get any moisture near the beans. Tosta Coffee Co is more than excited about bringing fresh roasted beans to our customers in 2012 Try a cup today . You will love it !
